Short CV

Afaq Ahmad studied electrical engineering at Hamdard University Karachi (Pakistan). Afterwards, he completed  M.Sc. in Automation and Robotics (specialization: Process automation) at TU Dortmund. The topic of the Master Thesis in the Process Dynamics and Operations Group was  "Dual and Adaptive Control in the Framework of Output Feedback Multi-stage NMPC".  He also has two years of working experience in a chemical industry where he worked as a control engineer. Since May 2016, he is working as a research associate in the Process Dynamics and Operations Group at TU Dortmund.  His research focus on iterative real time optimization and other interest includes Robust NMPC and estimation schemes.

“Towards Reliable and Efficient Real-Time Optimization of Processing Plants ”

The aim of this project is to develop a reliable RTO scheme which needs to be robust with respect to the structural deficiencies of the plant model and the presence of unknown disturbance and measurement noise. In particular, the properties of feasibility, optimality and fast convergence should be guaranteed despite these uncertainties.
