Prof. Engell spoke at Xiangshan science conference

Prof. Engell was invited to give a talk with title “Research challenges in cyber-physical systems of systems” at the Xiangshan Science Conference on ‘’Smart systems: Challenges and Perspectives’’ May 31 - June 01 2017 at Northeastern University in Shenyang, China.


The goal of this forum was to gather the best experts from China and international experts, not only from academia but also from industry and governmental organizations to discuss the future development of smart systems and the underlying challenges. The Xiangshan Symposium series is supported by the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology and was hosted by the School of Computer Science and Engineering of Northeastern University in Shenyang, China.

Before the conference, Prof. Engell and Dr.-Ing. Weihua Gao were invited by the President of Northeastern University (NEU) Zhao Ji to discuss the perspectives of a collaboration of NEU and TU Dortmund with several vice-presidents and department heads. President Zhao expressed a strong interest in further collaborations both in student and staff exchange and in research.

Prof. Engell also visited the State Key Laboratory of Synthetical Automation in the Process Industries. Prof Dai Xuewu gave an overview of the activities of the State Key Laboratory which have a significant overlap with the research of the DYN group.

Besides the visit to NEU, Prof. Engell visited Fangyuan Group Co., Ltd. in Haiyang where he gave a talk on “New Developments in Process Control” in front of more than 400 engineers and technicians. On June 2, 2017 Prof. Engell visited the Institute of Advanced Control Technology, Dalian Univ. of Technology headed by Prof. Liu Tao and gave a talk with the title: “Real-time optimization and optimizing control in the presence of plant-model mismatch”.
